The facts:
In NZ, this number called my mobile. It got my voicemail. It left a message that said "0-7-7-6-3 if you did not request this code press 1 now and you will be connected to an operator."
I recognised the voice. There is a software called Vyond which contains text to voice technology. We use it at work to make videos and I am familiar with the voice options. This caller had used the "New Zealand Male Voice" option from Vyond to create their telephone audio message.
My speculation:
I think this is a phishing call. I think the idea is that the person answers the phone, hears the "verification code" they didnt ask for, then taps 1 to follow the instructions for not having asked for it.
I suppose the operator then initiates the scam, maybe cautions them that someone is trying to access their account, and to provide their details and password to the "operator" to get it secure, thereby compromising it.
Rationale:
There is no verification code that says "if you did not request this code then speak to our outbound operator on the unlisted phone number. Because the way authorisation codes work is if nothing happens then the account remains safe.
